Optimizing Police Facility Locations Based on Cluster Analysis and the Maximal Covering Location Problem

Planning and defining places for the installation of police facilities are fundamental to improving public security service in urban space. Geographic Information Systems connecting spatial distribution occurrences, budgetary restrictions, maximum distance covered state-of-the-art innovations addressing need preventive responsive management. The present work proposes a management information system support analysis suggestion potential facility locations. is modeled using k-means cluster definition candidate locations, maximal covering location problem used optimize predefined proposed allows alternative locations their impacts on security. application Brazil demonstrates that it possible obtain an additional 22% gain coverage area occurrences reduction 920 m terms average when comparing system’s suggested current configuration. Thus, our assessment provides efficient tool supporting decisions regarding helps improve service.
